What kind of Base will I need?

When deciding what kind of base to use.

There are several options available when considering which base to use for your shed including, concrete, slabs, timber, and plastic grids.

You may choose to install your shed on several different types of base, however when deciding this please bear in mind that the most important thing of all is that the base be perfectly level and adequately sited leaving enough room around it to enable the shed to be placed on top .

If you need any information or help when considering this please get in touch and we will do our best to help you.

We do offer a service for shed bases (in certain areas) which may not include all options as above, (please ask for more info)

Q: What is the difference between apex and pent sheds ?

Here at The Shed Brothers we are always being asked what the difference is between an Apex and a Pent shed. it is important that you know the difference when ordering to avoid any confusion or upset at a later date in the process. The main difference is the style of roof.

There is no one design which is better than the other and therefore the main reason for choosing a particular style of shed will most likely come down to personal preference on style or practicality due to headroom etc .

Main differences

Pent Shed Roof

This is a kind of hip-style roof where there is only one surface to it which is usually higher at the front of the building and slopes towards the back of the shed, this gives the shed quite a modern look and feel.

Pent Shed Roof

Apex Roof

This is a more traditional style of roof with 2 surfaces meeting at the top to form a point and look like a traditional gable from the end. these are often favorable when needing a little extra headroom due to the internal peak.

Q: What size wood do you use to build sheds ?

All framework is built from a heavier-duty wood with 600mm centers creating a robust frame before being clad using a choice of either of our shiplap or Loglap cladding options, floors are built using 400mm centres and 18mm matchboard.

Q: What do I need to do to my shed after installation?

It is essential that all windows are sealed inside and out as soon as is possible after assembly.

Although it may come with a factory basecoat you should treat your new garden building shortly after installation with a good quality water resistant treatment. This process should then be repeated annually with care taken to brush the treatment into all wooden components involved within the construction of the building, inside and out

Q: Do I have to pay in full on order

No, we ask for a 50% deposit of the quote at the initial order then final payment as your shed goes into the workshop to be built, we will contact you to request this.

Q: How long will my shed take to build?

This depends on the time of year, typically between October and March the time scale is around 6 weeks, from March to September this would possibly increase to 10-12 weeks.

Q: Do you do free garden surveys?

Yes, we offer a free local survey where we will discuss your requirements, and take photos and measurements, the main office will then email your quote to you.
